Blur gets silence at Coachella- is this normal? More on Blur at Wembley in 2023

This past week Blur performed at Coachella which is based in California, and got a surprisingly ‘dull’ reaction from crowds on their first night. Was this the same for their iconic Wembley shows in July 2023? Put simply, no.

Blur played two shows in Wembley, both of which were completely sold out and housed 90,000 people each night. Accounts from the shows in July were recorded and no bad words had been said- the crowd roaring and enjoying every song they performed.
A particularly sentimental moment of the show on the first night included lead singer Damon Albarn laying on the stage with his guitar in his hands, listening to 90,000 people all sing one of their hit songs ‘Tender’ to him. The artist was brought to tears due to how much these shows meant to him and how much everyone had been enjoying the performance.

Within this show they also played ‘The Narcissist’, in which the disco ball shone down on the whole crowd when the sun had gone down, giving the show a real nostalgic feel. As well as this, those in the golden circle of the standing part of the stadium got the honour of seeing Damon Albarn playing the grand piano up-close.

Playing Wembley was a defining moment in Blur’s career, funny due to it being nearly 20 years after they’d stopped playing as a band. These shows where a factor of their reunion, and all Blur fans (American or not) are still to this day supporting and loving the band.

Tell us what you think about the band’s experience at Coachella, will we see them again headlining?
