Gig Review- introducing Shallowdrown
Shallowdrown played their first ever gig supporting Ant Hill in Leicester on the 27th December, at The Big Difference in Leicester. They are a four-piece rock band that have just started out playing live and have some completed original songs- great music, and their debut night showed it.
They came on at 8:30pm for their set, playing original songs and one cover of Jennifer’s Body by Hole. During the set, an audience member boasted about how natural their stage presence felt- and another talked about how good their original songs sounded. We agree. Our personal favourite songs were ‘How To Care’ which was more upbeat and a great song to shout, and ‘Sleep’ which the band created a lovely atmosphere with by suggesting everyone sit down for the duration of the song- this is something that we and many haven’t seen before at a gig and the performance of this song really enabled everyone in the room to feel the emotion of the artist. The Big Difference was a perfect venue for this set as the downstairs stage area and lights really helped to encapsulate the personal songs and lively songs they played, it also greatly accommodated the amount of people that had arrived excited to hear Shallowdrown and the other bands play. Can you tell we love local music?
Andy Moores (Bouquet Of Yours), Fire Escape and Ant Hill also played at the venue this night either side of Shallowdrown, and uplifted the vibe of the event even more. The night as a whole was upbeat, cheerful and most importantly, rock-y!
Talking with the band after their set, they were thrilled with the turn-out of their time on stage and were extremely pleased with the amount of support shown by both the audience and the venue that night. It was great to hear this band play as the night really showed their potential in the music scene and with the success of this night, they have their second gig coming up! On January 22nd they will be playing a set at a venue called Firebug in Leicester, so go and hear it for yourselves!
