Gig Review- Dreamcage and supports at the Soundhouse
On 16 August, Archy and The Astronauts and Ant Hill supported Dreamcage at The Soundhouse in Leicester, for a big come-back live gig. ‘This was a great way to get the wheel turning again’ said Ed, a member of Dreamcage, after mentioning their short break from gigs recently.
The Soundhouse itself is a warm, cozy but cool venue that hosts lots of events such as comedy, poetry nights and music- it is decorated with murals both inside and out and welcomes creativity. The stage used was very spacious and convenient, the space being used brilliantly. Apart from the reduced inside ventilation, the venue really did these bands justice. Crowd levels increased throughout the night, making a great turn-out of an audience for the sets.
The night started off with Archy and The Astronauts, a band from Lincoln that have recently launched their debut EP. They played many original songs, some off of this debut EP such as ‘Cut Your Teeth’ and ‘John Doe’ and built a roaring crowd throughout their set. Some favourite songs of ours being ‘Something Funny’ which they had the crowd interact with and was their finale song, and ‘Abandon the Mission’ which included some amazing vocals as well as guitar riffs. Next on were Ant Hill, a band from Leicester that are working on something at the minute…. no words to tell but I can say that their set was great. The crowd had grown now due to Archy and the Astronauts and it seemed that Ant Hill were very ready to match the energy they portrayed. They played original songs along with one cover ‘A Horse With No Name’ by America. A favourite of ours was a new song of theirs called ‘Madeline’, a slightly older one ‘Pedestrian Crossing’ too and judging by the crowd there I think they would agree. All of the songs they played brought a unique energy to the scene, continuing a night of excelling rock music. Find out more about them on their Instagram here.
Finally the headliners came on, Dreamcage, with their exciting line-up of songs. The crowd very ready to listen, they performed a great, lively set of original music, including all the songs from their EP called ‘Life & Loathing’: ‘Overtake’, ‘You’, ‘Alive’ and ‘Life’s Too Short’. This EP received such a good response from the crowd, along with the other original songs they played during their time on stage. Dreamcage really ended this night the ‘rock n roll’ way, with big riffs and screaming voices- making sounds which the whole venue easily danced to until the very end of the performance.
